Sunsets & Bubbles – 6 April 2016

It is that time of the year when Frankfurt and its ‘Messe’ welcome the world top players in the meetings & events industry worldwide. The city hosts annually IMEX, a trade show that welcomes travel professionals from all over the world. This will be the first year I’m not attending it after 5 editions in a row!

I had been 4 continuous years in a city, for a period of 3 to 4 days each time, and all I had seen was the airport, the business hotels where we stayed each year and the ones that hosted the official party -these last probably only the two first years… The remainders, I couldn’t be asked ; )

Last year I thought it was about time for me to get to discover what other than skyscrapers and corporate grey suits Frankfurt had to offer. And so, after the show, I said goodbye to my colleagues and headed towards the little hotel I had booked myself right at the opposite end of town, as a base to discover the hipster side of Frankfurt.

This was a Friday, it was sunny and I found a completely different city to the one I had seen in previous years. A city that I genuinely liked.

Lots of cute cafes, fashionable boutiques, traditional restaurants, gastro-bars, hipster patisseries and places to hang out, open typical German food markets, lots of flowers blooming everywhere, a charming riverside with a stunning sunset overlooking Mainhattan -the city skyline-, great food, Riesling wine, huge variety of beers, lots of bicycles and dogs -I love a cyclists and dogs friendly town!-, delicious bakeries everywhere… And all hold together by the very German hip and at the same time, classy style.

Here are some of the photos, if you’re considering a little German incursion any time soon, you can definitely try and combine Frankfurt with another city. I personally headed to Berlin right after, it’s a very easy train ride all the way up to the vibrant Berlin. Here’s the post I published a few months back about Berlin, and if you’re interested in more about this city, keep an eye as I’ll be publishing soon a new one featuring Karneval der Kulturen, that will be hold in May – massive street festival and parade, great fun!
